I enjoy using my computer…..but I enjoy painting more.

There is nothing that replaces the squishy, spontaneous messy creativeness of paint on canvas. Layer upon layer, each locked into a sequence.  Error and inspiration contributing to a final history of visual thought edited into something that can be called a painting.  A fascination with the nuanced penumbral area between light and shadow, and the resulting glow, is a constant in my work.  Fundamentally, I am concerned with traditional realism in a context of responding to observed scenes or to thoughts constructed within my imagination. Whatever the subject, I strive to make it seem visually real. I don't just paint how things look….I want a sense of how things work; how they were designed and constructed.

In my world, I make little distinction between what is called commercial art and fine art.  To me orange crate label art has a place alongside the works of the old masters.  Letter forms are intriguing and I often integrate them into paintings.

With my primitive tools in a modern age, I combine the past and present while I ponder the future.
