There was a time before the internet, cell phones, computers, when technology was new, when the earth seemed limitless, and resources abundant.  No freeways, few cars, and fewer airlines. News traveled slowly. Modernity seemed to offer answers. Hand painted images were “high tech”. The Golden age of Illustration was a time when much art was devoted to telling stories.  The following paintings offer a chance to travel to a different frame of mind, a respite from the pressures of modern life.  In a world of ever increasing speed and technology, they offer a moment, designed and frozen in time, meticulously drawn and painted.  Much of the art world currently chooses to abandon narrative and the discipline of traditional realism.  I see value in sometimes looking back as we fly forward into the future.
